Colorado Springs, CO – Springs Fabrication Inc. has recently been awarded an $8.1 million contract to provide equipment supporting the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) project at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot (PCD) in Pueblo, Colorado. The Bechtel Pueblo Team is the systems contractor for the PCAPP project and was selected by the Defense Department’s Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternative program in 2002 to design, build, operate, and close PCAPP. The plant will use neutralization and bio-treatment to destroy projectiles and mortars containing 2,600 tons of mustard agent, about eight percent of the U.S. chemical weapons stockpile. The project is estimated to last about 10 years at a cost of approximately $3.5 billion.

Springs Fab will contract directly with Golder Associates out of their Lakewood, CO office. Golder owns the rights to the proprietary design, Springs Fab has provided specialized equipment to the Golder team on several remediation projects.

The bulk of work to be completed by Springs Fab will be the manufacturing of several bio-reactor modules, each module consisting of large tanks, process and pump equipment. The modules will remove contaminants from wastewater generated by the mustard agent neutralization process. In addition, Springs Fab will provide equipment supporting an off-gas treatment system designed to control odors from the process.
